Japanese leather that develops character with use
The newly introduced store-exclusive MD Notebook Covers are made from rare domestic cowhide tanned by a tannery in Sumida, Tokyo, with 78 years of history. Very few tanneries in Tokyo still produce cowhide, making this a rare example of a craft tradition that has been passed down through generations.
The leather is primarily vegetable-tanned. With use, its color and luster deepen, revealing the natural character of the leather—a distinctive quality of this natural, undyed leather. Its soft, pale tone and smooth, gentle texture feel comfortable in the hand.
This cow leather starts with a soft and pale white hue. Over time, the leather develops a character of its own, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of real leather as it changes with use.
A minimal leather pencil case that stands on its own
We worked with a tannery from Hyogo Prefecture to develop the store-exclusive MD Pencil Case Cow Leather, made with “Tatsuno Leather”, known for its fine grain, suppleness, and firmness.
Its minimalist triangular shape takes up little space, whether on your desk or in your bag. The upward-opening zipper makes it easy to see what’s inside, so you can carry just a few favorite writing instruments rather than filling it with everything.
The undyed nature of this leather allows the user to develop the pencil case’s character over time. Enjoy the rich patina the more you use it.
